Away from the crowds – this gorgeous newly renovated apartment is perched overlooking the lovely bay of Mlini. With three double bedrooms all en-suite and a large terrace it’s perfect for partaking in a glass of local wine as the sun sets, and you decide which restaurant to visit for your evening meal .
A short walk through the beautiful pines and Mediterranean evergreen trees takes you to a sandy beach and further small bays with pebble beaches. From there you can wander along the promenade into the pretty village of Mlini with its lovely restaurants, konobas and cafe bars.
Mlini is a lovely location to spend a holiday! It is a fishing village with old stone houses with their terracotta roofs, set around its little harbour with bobbing boats. You could easily spend a week here relaxing and sipping local wine and making the most of what Mlini has to offer. It isn’t necessary to hire a car as everything is on your doorstep!
If you feel the need to go further afield, Mlini also benefits from boat trips which run to the lovely local Elaffiti Islands and also from water taxis which from May to October, run to and from the old town of Dubrovnik. There are also regular bus services to Dubrovnik or nearby Cavtat.
Little cafes and restaurants, sit around the bay and along the promenade to nearby Srebreno, which is where the new mall is and supermarket it also has a lovely pebble beach but when you go into the sea it’s sand underfoot and very shallow – walk a bit further to weird and wonderful Kupari beach which is a gorgeous sandy beach but backed by the skeletons of bombed out hotels make it quite haunting.
Other available activities in Mlini include sailing, scuba diving ( Padi diving centre ), water-skiing, and hiking. And if you’ve had enough of rest and relaxation there are regular boats and buses to Dubrovnik Old Town instantly recognisable to Game of Throne Fans with loads of little craft shops café bars restaurants and museums.
For even more choice stay on the bus and end up in the port of Gruz where there are ferries out to the islands like Kolocep – sandy beach and no cars allowed great for a picnic ! – an excellent fish market and really reasonable restaurants too – Gruz and Lapad is where the locals tend to shop and eat – Kids would like the main beach in Lapad too as it has a big aquapark in the shallows for them to climb and play on.
In the other direction is lovely Cavtat Bay with loads of restaurants and café bars, galleries and shops – beloved by artists as it has a special quality of light – apparently – also a magnet for the super yachts so great for star spotting with your morning coffee. This area is also famous for embroidery so lots of little craft stalls to get your holiday presents.
Inland is the beautiful Konalve countryside full of vineyards and olive groves backed by the mountains, here you will find traditional Konobas where they serve traditional Croatian food , usually with their own home cured meats cheese and olive oil and of course wine ! Also you will find Adrenalin parks for the more active families these are a godsend a great day out with zip wires , absailing, tree top walks and all kinds of sports like mountain biking , archery , horse riding and off roading.
And after a day exploring – return to your perfect location in Mlini Bay and relax in one of the local restaurants like Lanterna ( great seafood ) or Puntizela ( Croatian with a twist ) or go back up the steps ( or get an Uber ) to the main road and across to Flamingoes – really reasonable prices well air conditioned and portions are huge – the meat platter for two would feed a small family !
