Ferries in Croatia
There are plenty of car and passenger ferries to make use of in Croatia a trip on a ferry is a great way to see more of the country. You can also catch a Hydrofoil if you don't want to take the car and want a fast transfer. Hydrofoil is called "Fast-line" and will take you from, say, Split to Vela Luka on Korcula in 1 hour 45 mins, but you need to pre-book the as they sell out very early – the most popular routes are usually full by Easter. The main ferry company for Croatia is called Jadrolinija. You can view their routes on a map or in tabular form.
You can now pre-book the catamaran to Hvar but car ferries to the islands are still a case of turning up on the day and buying your ticket at least an hour before hand as it’s first come first served. They can be booked online but they don’t guarantee that you will get a place on that ferry unless you're there early, you might still have to wait for the next one.
If you can't get a reasonably priced flight into Dubrovnik, why not just fly into Split and meander down the coast on a ferry? It's only a few hours between Split and Dubrovnik - there's usually a bar on board and you can leave your car below deck - it's altogether very pleasant! Just sit on deck with a glass of vino and enjoy watching the islands go by!
Please note the coastal ferry that used to run from Istria down to Split and on to Dubrovnik is no longer in operation.
Ferries from Split - Brac Island
It’s very easy to get to Brac Island is really close to the mainland and we have local reps on each side to arrange and supervise transfers and help you with your arrival. Here’s a run down of how you’d do it!
- Split Airport is very small and the port in Split is about 30 minutes drive from it. We have a local rep in Split & Trogir and we can arrange Transfers in Split & Trogir for you to get from the airport to the port so that is no problem – just click on the link for prices (or if you want me to confirm prices just let me know the number of people who would need the transfer and I will have a look for you). The transfer will drop you off at the ticket kiosk.
- You need to get to the ferry and buy tickets at least an hour in advance as it is first come first served. The port is actually at the end of the promenade at Split Old Town so it’s a lovely spot to go for a coffee or lunch while you wait for the ferry. You can then walk or drive on to the boat.
- It’s only a 50 minute ferry hop to Supetar on Brac Island. As an example of prices, it is approx (2017) 160 Kuna (approx £17) per car & 33 Kuna (approx £3.70) per person (foot passenger) to Brac Island from Split Port. Here is the Ferry Timetable - Split to Brac Island 2017 – there are about 14 crossings in high season per day and they go from early morning to late at night. NOTE: 2018 Timetable & prices awaited.
- You can also cross from Makarska straight to Sumartin – there are about 6 crossings per day on this route – Makarska is a small town about an hour’s drive south of Split so you would need to drive or have a transfer there first.
- Once you get to Brac, we also have a local rep on Brac Island and again, we can arrange Transfers on Brac Island for you – click on the link for prices or, again, let me know numbers and it would be no problem for me to look the price up for you.
- We can also arrange Car Hire on Brac Island or Car Hire in Split & Trogir (from Split Airport) for you if you would like – just ask me about this and I can tell you the options. We have a DIY cheaper option that you can do via our website through Rhino Car Hire or we can arrange it for you through our local suppliers.
