Your family would like to share a Croatian villa with pool with another family – how will it work?

by Saron Lease 21st March 2023

We are often asked to find villas for two or more families who’d like to holiday together – they enjoy socialising back at home and the children get on well, so it really makes sense. It can be cost-effective too as you are only paying for one pool and BBQ. The alternative is to have two or more villas side by side which whilst a great idea, can rack up the costs.

When sharing a villa, it can be helpful for everyone’s sanity to be able to retreat to some privacy away from the other family. Fortunately, Croatian villas with pools are often arranged as apartments, sharing the pool and other amenities. Sometimes the apartments have separate entrances; sometimes these are external to the building. Have a look at this selection of great examples of Croatia villas in a range of locations just made for sharing (we do have others):

Larger sharing villas (7-9 bedrooms 12-20 guests)
Dubrovnik riviera

Villa Sophia is really great for large groups and will sleep up to 18 comfortably but can take as many as 20. It has 8 ‘suites’, of which 7 have a kitchenette, with a total of 9 bedrooms. This Dubrovnik villa is made for those who love to BBQ and you’ll spend most of our time outside. Found in Zaton Bay just up the coast from Dubrovnik, the bay is one of the most beautiful in the area with crystal blue water great for snorkelling and diving. The village is lovely – really oldy worldly with a nice selection of restaurants and nice beaches around. There’s easy access to Dubrovnik by boat and bus. A great excursion is to the closest island of Kolocep which has a sandy beach.

Split riviera

Villa Zelen has 7 bedrooms, sleeping up to 12 guests. It’s arranged as 3 apartments: The ground floor has the 3-bedroom apartment, and the 1st Floor has two 2-bedroom ones. All three have a kitchen and they share the pool, BBQ and a little children’s play area. It’s in a great location at lively Okrug Gornji on the Split riviera, which is super for children. It’s walkable to the beach and restaurants. And to the water taxi from Okrug harbour over the short distance to stunning UNESCO Trogir old town. There’s a good bus service too.

Flying to Pula, we have 7-bedroom Villa Maia, which has the main 5-bedroom villa plus a 2-bedroom cottage in the garden. The main villa is arranged as two apartments, so with the cottage, you in effect have 3 ‘units’ of accommodation. This might suit one, two or three families of differing sizes. You’ll have a games room with table football and table tennis, and plenty of space for al fresco meals. An easy transfer from the airport, the villa is in a good location in Banjole within walking distance of everything.

Medium sharing villas (6 bedrooms, 12-15 guests)
Split riviera

Palm Tree Villa has 6-bedrooms, separated into a 2-bedroom Garden Apartment and the 4 bedroom  main villa. It’s on the beach with a gym, sauna, jacuzzi, plus a games room on the beach with pool table and kayaks. Super location close to restaurants, beach bar, well-stocked convenience store and the water taxi into Trogir. Highly recommended Split villa by many over the years we have been renting it.

Villa Cinquento 2 is one of just 5 new luxury Croatian villas with pool on a little complex – 24/7 access to a gym, free boat mooring and a heated pool.  It has two 3-bedroom apartments. For three smaller families, Villa Cinquento 4 has three 2-bedroom apartments. Both sleep 12 guests. They are about 20 minutes transfer from Split airport, and right on the beach. Grocery shops close by as well as a beach bar and restaurants. It is also close to Trogir Old Town which is gorgeous, and you can get the water taxi to Split along at Slatine.

Dubrovnik riviera

Just above Dubrovnik old town is 6-bedroom Villa Belvedere which sleeps up to 15 guests. A great Dubrovnik villa with super  views, pool and set in a large garden. Arranged as 4 apartments of varying sizes, it has a super socialising area and works well for groups. There’s a restaurant to walk to, the bread man comes every day, and there’s a bus to get into Dubrovnik.

Villa Mlini is in a great location in Mlini bay, just 10 minutes’ drove from Dubrovnik. This Croatia villa is a short walk to beaches, restaurants and food shopping. It sleeps up to 12 guests and comprises 7 bedrooms (5 doubles and 2 twin bedrooms), giving a great deal of flexibility in sleeping arrangements. Two of the double bedrooms are found in a self-contained suite in the upper storey, accessed by internal stairs from the main part of the villa).

Brac island

Villa Tika sleeps up to 15 in 6 bedrooms. This large Croatia villa is arranged as 4 apartments (3 with two bedrooms each and 1 housing the main kitchen and socialising dining area. It’s in the more exclusive Puntinak area. There are a couple of restaurants and a beach bar very close and more in Sumartin about 15 minutes’ walk away. Sumartin has a nice buzz about it and is has everything you need and there’s lots to explore in the vicinity – some great places to visit by boat too. You can hop on the ferry to Makarska very easily which is another great place to visit and nice day trip (ferry from Sumartin itself).

Villa Bougainville has 6 bedrooms and sleeps up to 16 guests. Arranged as 5 apartments (1x 2 bedrooms and in a separate building 4 x 1 bedroom apartments all with kitchenette/dining areas). It’s virtually on the beach in Bol where the famous Zlatni Rat beach is found. Lots to do in and around the town including a big tennis centre, water sports (wind surfing, kite surfing and all the usual SUP and kayak hire, and there’s scuba diving too). It is close to everything, and you also have a few nightclubs in Bol too.

Dubrovnik riviera

Villa Cavtat is a nice one in a very good location, and excellent for larger groups. 6 bedrooms in total, it sleeps up to 15 guests. It has a self-contained suite, great for a small family or for grandparents.  Cavtat – is a beautiful old town and this villa is right in the old town itself – it’s just a short walk down to the bay which is full of atmosphere and has everything you need – swimming spots, good selection of restaurants and bars and lovely views. Cavtat is also a short transfer from the airport, and you can get the water taxi into Dubrovnik or to the little islands off the coast.

Smaller sharing villas (3 – 5 bedrooms, 8-14 guests)
Split riviera

Villa Marijana is in Arbanija on the Split riviera. It sleeps up to 10 guests in 5 bedrooms, and arranged as one x 3 -bedroom apartment and one x 2-bedroom apartment linked by external stairs. Super for children as you have a small play area, and the villa is walkable to beaches, restaurants and a water taxi into lovely Trogir old town. 20-minute transfer from the airport. Adults will appreciate the konoba and the gym.

On the same stretch of coast is Villa Slatine, another 5 bedroom Split villa that can actually sleep up to 14 guests. Also arranged as one x 3 -bedroom apartment and one x 2-bedroom apartment linked by external stairs. It’s literally steps over to the beach and a short walk to a choice of restaurants and a good food shop.

Brac island finds more Croatian villas with pool suitable for smaller families sharing

A lovely example is Villa Sinatra is in Sumartin Bay – a really lovely place and the beaches are great. This villa is great for one or two small families. It sleeps up to 8 and has 3 bedrooms, pool & is very close to the sea. One of the bedrooms is in a one-bedroom apartment with a double sofa bed, and the other apartment is the larger with two bedrooms.  Great views and within easy walking distance of restaurant, beach bar and beaches, all your day to day needs. You get boat mooring too! Sumartin has a nice buzz about it and is has everything you need and there’s lots to explore in the vicinity – some great places to visit by boat too.

Villa Lumbarda is arranged as two 2- bedroom apartments sleeping 8 guests. You also have a Jacuzzi and gym. In Lumbarda town, it’s just a short drive from gorgeous Korcula old town.
