Dubrovnik & Split in Top 16 Best Beach Cities in Europe, says Travel & Leisure Readers

Online travel magazine, Travel & Leisure has named two of Croatia’s coastal cities in their list of the top beach cities in Europe. In its list of 16 top beach cities, both Dubrovnik and Split have won places with Dubrovnik in eleventh place and Split in 15th place.

Travel & Leisure readers voted on the yearkly run “Worlds Best Awards” and rated their favourite cities based on “their sights and landmarks, culture, food, friendliness, shopping, and overall value”. The magazine says that many of the highest voted cities also had fantastic beaches and Croatia had two cities in the top 16.

Banje Beach in Dubrovnik is one of the best beaches in the whole of Croatia. It reports that this popular beach is near the Old Town of Dubrovnik and has a great beach club. It is not hard to see why Dubrovnik was chosen since Banje Beach has such the fantastic backdrop of Dubrovnik Old Town itself.

Split Old Town was also commended as being a medieval port city from which visitors can easily access the  Dalmatian islands and their many quiet and spectacular beaches – like Brac Island for example. The article says that Split is ideal for those interested in sailing too due to the mild climate.

Other award winning cities and their beaches were Nice on the Cote d’Azur, France, San Sebastian, Spain, and the winner overall was Barcelona, Spain. See the full list of Best European Beach Cities here.
