What would encourage you to a Dubrovnik visit? Beaches, food, architecture, the people? Well yes of course – all those!

By Croatia Gems, 12th October 2022

According to Conde Nast Traveler, when on a its readers have voted Dubrovnik amongst the twelve friendliest cities in Europe (2022 Readers’ Choice Awards). Other contenders were San Sebastien, Bruges, Reykjavik to name but a few.

As well as being noted as a friendly city, Conde Nast’s readers who made a Dubrovnik visit, either staying in a Dubrovnik villa, hotel or B&B, loved the city’s pedestrianised shopping streets. They enjoyed the architecture and, of course, the backdrop of the turquoise Adriatic Sea which virtually surrounds the old town and features in so many views out.

We are sure they also made the most of the wide variety of cuisine and affordability of Dubrovnik restaurants. From high end Restaurant 360 to a lowly pizza place, the food will be excellent, and you can savour most world foods from traditional Croatian cuisine, to Asian at Restaurant Azur, or even sushi! Also appealing would have been the access to the little islands off the coast and to water sports. We mustn’t forget too, the attraction of famous movie sets that turned Dubrovnik into alien planet strongholds or even English cities!

The old town continues to wow those on a Dubrovnik visit. It was one of two Croatian cities recently ranked among the world’s most trending destinations in 2022 according to TripAdvisor. It was ranked 5th, with Split ranking 13th in the world.

Where to stay?

Those on a Dubrovnik visit need not limit themselves to villas in Dubrovnik old town itself. These are unlikely to have that sought-after pool. Sometimes it is better to broaden your search to find a Dubrovnik villa with private pool in one of the many sea edge villages close by. So, villages with villas in Dubrovnik wider area, all which have easy access to the old town include Mlini, Plat, Cavtat and Zaton. Each of these have great beaches, restaurants and good transport links by bus, taxi or water taxi to Dubrovnik old town.
