For Croatia Villas, Split Offers a Wealth of Memorable Experiences to Make Your Croatia Holiday a Memorable One
By Helen Lease, 12th June 2026
For Croatia villas, Split and its surrounding riviera offer a wealth of memorable experiences to make your Croatia holiday full of enjoyable trips and adventures – whether it’s up and down the coast on the mainland, to islands just a ferry hop away, I can guarantee you’ll be spoilt for choice.
The Split Riviera is popular for a number of reasons. Most notably because of its numerous, lovely sea edge villages offering a plentiful supply of Croatian villas for all pockets. You’ll find it’s easy to find family villas within easy reach of great beaches and restaurants.
Explore Beautiful old towns
Another enticement will be the proximity of beautiful old towns full of traditional architecture including Roman and mediaeval, with their historic street patterns. UNESCO recognised Trogir Old Town is a prime example, with its core a jumble of narrow car free lanes with hidden restaurants hiding in courtyards. Also, atmospheric Juliet balconies appear above you festooned with pots overflowing with colourful flowers. The lanes open up into larger squares giving space for tables and chairs to spill from little cafes.
You’ll want to take your time savouring your coffee and do some people-watching. Like many sea edge villages, Trogir has developed a lovely marina in front of the Riva. You won’t be alone in strolling along and wondering who owns the beautiful yachts – this makes a lovely after dinner evening walk.
Island Hop with Boat Trips from Trogir or Split to Brac, Hvar & Vis
Of course, the proximity to the sea lends itself to boat trips. These can be water taxis to access nearby villages or for excursions to beautiful caves, water features or islands. Split old town is the main gateway to the islands of Brac and Solta (closest ones), plus Hvar, Korcula and Vis. This offers the potential for day trips or for two centre holidays, one Croatia villas Split and the other to experience island life in a villa.
Book an Excursion to Omis for an Adrenalin-Seeking Day
If you’d like some adventure from your Croatia villa head for Omis, down the coast from Split. The town marks the Cetina River’s emergence from a gorge into the Adriatic. There are numerous activities for adrenalin-seeking folk: canyoning, rafting, cliff-jumping, kayaking, climbing. Have a look also at the Via Ferrata Omis (iron trail). This is a route that make use of wire cables and fixed anchors to allow non-climbers to safely access the high peaks around the gorge – I’m not sure that one’s for me!
Experience Natural wonders of the Split Region like Krka National Park
Maybe the natural world is all the excitement you desire? Have a look at Krka National Park where the karst landscape has created a gorge and cascading waterfalls. I loved this day out. You can walk the boardwalks on top of the waterfalls and admire the beauty of the waterfall pools. There’s a folk museum with its reconstructed house and workshops to visit, and you can take a ferry down the gorge. The wider area around Skradin is very interesting and a favourite of Bill Gates!
On your return journey from Krka, I popped into historic Sibenik with its UNESCO protected cathedral. You’ll find Restaurant Pelegrini there too, a Michelin star restaurant.
Up the coast you can discover the famous Sea Organ at Zadar, which plays music with the rhythm of the sea’s waves.
