Cavtat is wonderful to visit and just perfect for holidays. It is quintessentially Croatian and has a traditional old town with pretty winding streets sloping down to the sea edge and bay. There are some lovely houses nestling in the hillside around the old town bay and on the other side of the peninsula are hotels – the atmosphere created means that Cavtat has that chilled out and quite sophisticated vibe and an ideal search area for Dubrovnik villas for rent.
The bay itself has a promenade all the way around and little coves to swim from. The water here is particularly clean and clear and favoured by locals – indeed there are some wonderful places to sunbathe and swim! Take a sun lounger near one of the quirky little beach bars like the one at the end of the right hand side of the peninsula for a relaxed feel. Or for a more decadent feel, go to the other side where there are steps into the sea and a restaurant/café next to the sun loungers.
There is lots to do in or from Cavtat. How about Sea Kayaking, either as part of a group led by a professional guide, or just hire kayaks and explore yourself? Cavtat is a water sports’ heaven and because of the variety of diving, snorkeling and scuba opportunities off the local coastline, experienced divers and novices alike have the opportunity to find a challenge relative to their experience. Local water sport’s schools are based in Cavtat to guide and teach you.
Away from the immediate coast you have more activities on offer from horse riding to cycling trails to more excitement in the form of adventure parks (zip wire and treetop terrace walks to more sedate archery…), ATV buggy trails, off road jeep safaris, extreme fishing etc.
Cavtat restaurants plentiful and varied in their offering, but do also take the chance of visiting the traditional domestic restaurants in nearby Konavle. These are often in beautiful peaceful rural locations, and make sure you book early if you want to order the dish known as ‘under the bell’ – meat cooked overnight in the embers, which is just delicious.
