The Island of Mljet is well known for its National Park but that is by no means all it has to offer – If you want to get off the beaten track for some serenity and unadulterated nature and scenery then head for Saplunara, the centre piece of which is a stunning, sweeping, turquoise bay.
Other lovely bays and coves are sprinkled around the end of the island here and you will find lovely walks, beautiful views and places to swim. This is a quiet area with little hamlets and the odd local house being built… slowly! Nothing happens fast here. That’s why it’s special.
There are a few local little eateries that cook up fresh island fish with local herbs which is just perfect washed down with a bottle of local wine. Hiking, cycling, finding new beaches, book reading on the beach and exploring the coastline are the main activities here. The local fishermen are also happy for you to go out with them if you want to get up early! Then eat what you catch later… After a day of fresh air and relaxation by the sea, you’ll feel revived…
