Arguably, the best time to rent a Dubrovnik villa is September
By Helen Lease, 17th May 2023
September is a delight for your Dubrovnik villa rental – it’s a bit cooler, there are fewer tourists and it’s kinder on your wallet!
We always look forward to The Independent newspaper’s weekly email from Simon Calder, travel journalist. This week’s ‘Get inspired’ section includes ‘Off Season Croatia: why you should head to the holiday hotspot before summer hits’. It’s mainly about visiting Dubrovnik for your Croatia holiday, Croatia’s ‘jewel in the crown’.
The best time to visit Dubrovnik?
In Lucy Thackray’s piece she argues that we should go to Dubrovnik before or after peak summer to find it at its most serene. Oh, so true! Having just returned from there (early May, but also last year in late October and September the year before), I can vouch for visiting in these ‘shoulder months’ are divine months to soak up the delights of Dubrovnik from your Dubrovnik villa rental.
Advantages of late summer Dubrovnik holidays
In doing so you avoid the heat and the crowds, making sight-seeing far more enjoyable. Believe me, the exhilarating experience of walking the old town walls can be less than pleasant in high-season crowds and scorching temperatures. However please don’t forget to apply sunscreen, as the sun is still strong enough to damage. Temperature averages reach the low-mid 20’s Centigrade in May and October, and a heady 26C average in September. Dubrovnik will still be bustling and full of life, but you can find space to enjoy it. Autumn stays at Dubrovnik villa rentals benefit from a long hot summer, making sea bathing just lovely as the sea holds the warmth. At this time, you’re unlikely to need to fight to get tables at Dubrovnik restaurants, the sunsets are just as glorious and of course the prices are kinder on the wallet!
Get out and about from Dubrovnik
Although Lucy based herself in Dubrovnik, her itinerary took her to lovely Lopud island just off the coast and a catamaran trip to Korcula island. She describes Korcula town as “ludicrously beautiful”. She could instead have driven up the Peljesac peninsula to Orebic and over on the short ferry to stunning Korcula town, thereby having the chance to visit wineries on the way and stopped off for sightseeing, restaurants and beaches.
