The Best Croatia Villa Pool Locations for some Island Hopping Action
by Saron Lease 28th May 2023
One of the main reasons for coming to Croatia is to do a bit of island hopping!
But if you want to do out with a bit of class and don’t want to rucksack around like a gap year student, how do you do it? We’d recommend Croatia villa hire in a very island accessible location…
Dubrovnik Island Hops
Take Dubrovnik, for example. The rental of private villas in Croatia here is in strong demand. But the Old Town of Dubrovnik isn’t the only attractive element of this coastline. If Dubrovnik is the pearl of the Adriatic, its own little Elafiti islands are the jewels… The little Croatian islands of Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan sit just off the mainland and are easy to hop to for a day excursion from Dubrovnik, or more.
There are day trips you can join but we’d recommend hiring a boat with local skipper for a day or two, or even hedging to Gruz port and jumping on a local boat. With no cars and just golf buggies for transport on these islands, you are certainly transported back in time to the way things were. The pace of things is deliciously slow. Wander around the little harbour hamlets, sit by the water’s edge for a drink or a meal. And explore the island! On Kolocep Island there are sign posts and little pathways all around the island so it’s a delight with children and perfectly safe being car free.
Sophisticated Island Hops
For more sophistication be like the Jet set and head to Lopud Island (the Beckhams had a holiday on Lopud in 2022). A perfect little town is your first stop and then either hike across to the other side of the island or yacht around to sandy Sunj beach. Here is where the yachts drop anchor. If fine dining is your thing, lunch at top class Restaurant Dubrovnik for some fantastic seafood, restaurant is a must.
For some more wow-factor, Serene Sipan is a wonderful escape – boat in to Restaurant Kod Marka for an idyllic waters’ edge lunch. Let them bring you what they have that day – memorable indeed. Or boat hop to BOWA on Sipan Island from Brsecine Beach near Zaton. Spend an idyllic day in barefoot luxury by hiring a sublime cabana on stilts above the turquoise sea being served local delicacies..
If you’re staying in Dubrovnik, Mlini Bay or Cavtat Bay, also head to Supetar Island. Easy to see from Mlini, it’s a tiny island with a restaurant. Escape for an afternoon and take your snorkel. Stay at cool Villa Turquoise in Mlini Bay for sublime island views and easy access to all the Elafit Islands…
Mljet Island Escape
If you’ve got a bit longer you simply must take a trip to Mljet Island. Wild beauty, Mljet has been protected and allowed to flourish without interruption with half the island designated as Mljet National Park. Head for Saplunara beach and enjoy being truly away from it all. Hop on a ferry from Prapratno which is situated just past Ston near the start of the Peljesac Peninsula. You would need a car really to do this island hop but if you want to make the most of Croatia we’d always recommend doing that. There are so many places to happen up when you have a car…
Depending on when you visit Mljet, it may be worth staying a night or two to explore the island and enjoy it at a slow island pace! There are some lovely little B&B’s that work well.
