Dubrovnik is at the Top of the Bucket List for Romance

There aren’t many things more romantic than a cosy weekend in Dubrovnik. With its lamp lit, oldy worldy streets, little wine bars and the sea lapping at your toes, not to mention beautiful views out to the islands, Dubrovnik is at the top of the list for a Valentine stay away. In short, if we’re talking romance, it has to be Dubrovnik…
For us, a romantic Valentines Day in Dubrovnik would have to start with breakfast and a view of the incredibly beautiful Old Town of Dubrovnik itself, out over Banje Beach to the Adriatic Sea – the Hotel Excelsior is a favourite for one of the best views. Then a wander into the Old Town is a joy at this time of year. The sun is out today, as is usual for February, and the town is not crowded – it’s just gorgeous and peaceful and perfect for some exploring and mooching as you take in the picturesque views from the many viewpoints. There are plenty of quaint shops to fall into as you meander along the maze of back streets and no shortage of coffee shops and bars to stop for refreshment and take in the atmosphere. Coffee is king here in Croatia and a coffee on the main street of the old town, “Stradun” is the perfect way to take in the splendour of this jaw droppingly beautiful place.
Wend your way town to Lokanda Peskarija on the Old Town Harbour and have a coffee and a snack – the sea air and boats bobbing on the turquoise water is a perfect end to the morning!
After a little siesta, take a cab to Lapad Bay and have a romantic stroll under the pine trees alongside the hidden bays. Then a glass of something on the restaurant terrace here is a beautiful way to watch the sun go down – the sunsets over the Elafitti Islands are fabulous.
Dinner would of course have to be in the Old Town of Dubrovnik – some wine tasting at the D’Vino Wine Bar would have to be a must to start the evening – with so many fantastic Croatian wines in the cellars, the perfect glass is sure to present itself! And then dinner at Restaurant Kopun, with its divine location in pretty square at the top of its fabulous sweeping steps is a wonderful way to end a romantic evening. The innovative menu here brings traditional and forgotten dishes to life with a modern twist – interesting, delicious and beautifully presented, try the signature dish with some locally produced wine and definitely try the deserts!
