VILLA CIARA – VIGANJ, PELJESAC PENINSULA
Villa Ciara is set in the pretty sea edge village of Viganj, a sought after holiday destination near Orebic – great beaches and restaurants with wonderful views to Korcula Old Town and lots to explore in the area.
Villa Ciara is a charming villa near the sea ( 300m) in the popular little village of Viganj on the Peljesac Peninsula. There are four bedrooms (the villa is divided into 2 separate apartments connected by an exterior staircase ) the ground floor has a full size kitchen leading out to a lovely light dining area with seating for up to 10 people – the windows can be opened up on to the side terrace convenient for grabbing a fresh orange for your breakfast!
It has a decent sized pool and benefits from partial sea views. The property offers free parking and also provides an outside BBQ and dining area. Upstairs there is an additional terrace. A short walk will bring you to Viganj town centre and beach; this charming villa by the sea would make a wonderful base for two families or a group of friends.
Viganj is now one of the favourite gathering places for surfers, the narrow channel between the Peljesac and the island of Korcula, presents the best conditions for windsurfing and kite surfing in the afternoons.
As an alternative to the crowded beaches near Dubrovnik it’s fast becoming a firm favourite with our customers – there are loads of spots and clubs for diving especially for wrecks, great hiking trails – free climbing and cycling with a myriad of paths and gravel roads leading through olive groves and vineyards.
Of course you can always indulge in a favourite local sport of sipping a glass of local wine in the shade. The area has lots of vineyards to complement the abundance of seafood. The Peljesac vineyards tend to specialise in red wine (Vineyards Dingac or Postup ) while on the easily reached island of Korcula (ferry port in the nearby town of Orebic). Locals tend to prefer white wine so you must try a glass of Posip or Grk.
A lot of California wine families can trace their route back to the area the popular Zinfandel Grape has practically identical DNA with local vines. And again migrating Croatians to New Zealand in the 1800’s started off the large vineyards there too.
Seafood Restaurants abound – Korcula and the Peljesac is now becoming a bit of a ‘foodie’ destination with frequent food fairs and wine tastings organised by some of the local restaurants. Start off in Ston at the beginning of the Peninsula – the clear waters are perfect for shellfish – Ston oysters are up there with the best – while the mussels tend to be small and sweet. You have a plethora of sea food choices from one bay to the other from lobster to octopus; John Dory also is a very local fish.
Head slightly inland and there are lots of small vineyards offering wine & cheese tastings but some also have their own restaurants. There is also a farm Konoba Antunović which is worth a visit for its authenticity – the family just prepare a selection of dishes mainly meat under the bell which is usually lamb or veal cooked very slowly with veg over a wood fire under a metal cover until it’s really tender. No sweets or coffee – it is quite basic – but they do make their own cheese and wine & olive oil etc cure their own meats and bake their own bread most of which you can also buy to take home with you.

“Viganj is a gorgeous little spot – lovely beaches and views across to Korcula Old Town from the beach plus great little restaurants and bars with lots of atmosphere. The boat across to Korcula from Viganj was great! Also loved Gordans seafood restaurant in Loviste down the road. Good area, and beautiful..”
