The Makarska Riviera is a stunning stretch of coastline – with its steep mountain back drop and pristine beaches with their turquoise, clear, calm sea, the area is very picturesque. Most people looking for a Makarska apartment head for the beach resorts dotted along the Riviera and don’t move far! Larger resorts such as Tucepi and Baska Voda have long stretches or beach and are characterised by their hotel complexes and sea front promenades but you can also book Makarska apartments in this area.

Makarska Apartments

Smaller places like Brela retain much character also and have a vibrant summer ambiance not to mention beautiful beaches. This is a lovely place for Makarska apartments and it’s hard not to relax here! There are usually lots of activities on the beaches which make it a great place for families who have children although there are many beaches and coves to explore and many quieter, more secluded ones. There are always events going on too throughout the summer months and plenty to keep visitors amused. Igrane is a lovely spot, the little town clinging to the hillside with a pretty sea front and beach and little restaurants to while away the day and evening.

The town of Makarska itself is the biggest town on the Riviera and is more lively. It has a super beach with promenade stretching all along the sea just behind the beach filled with restaurants, cafe bars, stalls and play areas and is very popular in the summer months. The views from the hillside above are mesmerizing. Mount Biokovo is the highest peak in Dalmatia and the 2nd highest mountain in Croatia rising to 1,762 metres at its highest point! There are guided walking tours that you can book to visit Biokovo and see its many wild flowers and coastline views.

It is also easy to get out to the Dalmatian islands from Makarska. From its harbour, there are ferries to Sumartin on Brac Island that run frequently on a daily basis and so you can have an island adventure easily from here and see what Brac is like too!
