The location was perfect too – great local beaches, lots to see and do, and plenty of lovely bars and restaurants nearby. It was also really easy to travel further afield by taxi or boat, and we enjoyed a couple of visits to Dubrovnik and also to Cavtat, both of which we loved. Why is Mlini the Best Place for a Dubrovnik Villa?

With its convenient location just 30 minutes from Dubrovnik Airport and 10 minutes’ drive from Dubrovnik Old Town, Mlini is the best place for villas in Dubrovnik. It’s ideal for a family holiday because Mlini is located below the main coast road making the whole bay mainly car free. Mlini and Srebreno make up one large bay and you can wander all around it via the pretty coastal path. The old village of Mlini has a picturesque little harbour and quaint old village perfect for an aperitif, lunch or dinner! There is a good selection of Mlini restaurants so plenty of choice for lunch and dinner. And no need to see a road as you can hop on one of the frequent water taxis into Dubrovnik Old Town or down to Cavtat. Or why not do an excursion out to the nearby Elafiti Islands just off the Dubrovnik coast? Mlini Bay is a very pretty and authentic location to have a villa holiday but also close to all the sights you may wish to visit on a Dubrovnik holiday. Everything is on your doorstep here without being over busy.

You can walk to Everything in Mlini!

There are idyllic beaches, cafes and restaurants dotted all around the bay with a large supermarket set just behind the bay at the Srebreno end. With a great bus service, local boat line and very reasonable Uber prices, it’s easy to get around without a car in Mlini. Just wander from your villa down into the bay and enjoy the many beaches, water sports and sea-side eateries. Everything is very practical.

Some of the Best Beaches in Dubrovnik are in Mlini

Mlini Bay beaches are some of the prettiest Dubrovnik beaches and some of the best swimming spots in the area. There are numerous coves and beaches since you can walk all around the large bay from Villa Bettera at the Astarea Hotel at one end of Mlini to Kupari Bay on the other side of Srebreno. Most of the beaches are right next to the seaside promenade so you can easily have a break from the beach and head to a nearby cafe or lunch spot. The sea is turquoise and warm, calm and shallow so perfect for paddling and relaxing.

And according to Conde Nast Traveler (2022 Readers’ Choice Awards), readers have voted Dubrovnik amongst the twelve friendliest cities in Europe so villas in Dubrovnik are a lovely choice for a family holiday. With its calm, beaches shaded by pine trees, Mlini is perfect for young families with small children. There are numerous children’s playparks around the bay including one super playground right next to a lovely beach, in the shade of the big pine trees. Made of tree trunks it will occupy your children for hours while you enjoy lunch or a drink at Restaurant Puntizela right by the beach!

Mlini is a good Location for Teenagers on a Family Holiday

If you are trying to satisfy teenagers on a family holiday in Dubrovnik, Mlini is a good place to be based. Mlini and Srebreno combined make the bay big enough for teenagers can have their independence. There are water sports from jets-kis to pedalos and in the summer there is a big inflatable park. There are cafes and ice cream kiosks and of course the beach is always the place to be.

Sightseeing & Excursions from Mlini

There is  a great new watersports shop at Mlini Harbour and a kayak and paddle board rental place around the bay in Srebreno. You can also hop on a a boat into Dubrovnik Old Town (it’s about 15 Euros for an adult return ticket) or the other way to Cavtat Bay – or, of course, you can take a day to explore the nearby Elafiti Islands. Dubrovnik is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site so it’s a must-see and it’s easy to get to from Mlini. A Dubrovnik Pass is a good value way to see the main sights. We recommend you walk the city walls and take the cable car up Srd Hill above the old town to see the spectacular views.
