Snaking along the coast south of Split, the Makarska Riviera is dominated by impressive Mount Biokovo which lends a stunning backdrop to the pretty seaside towns and villages dotted along the sea edge. Makarska villas are to be found all along the coastline, from the main town of Makarska itself to the smaller places either side. Some of the most pristine beaches in Croatia are to be found along this coast and they are popular because of this – worth considering the best locations when looking for a Makarska villa…
Some villages are more dominated by the large hotels that have set up there (like Baska Voda and Tucepi) and others have just stayed the small places that they always were (like Igrane). Some are a mixture of the two (like Brela). They all attract tourists come the summer months and are ideal for soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the seaside. At Makarska villas, everything is on hand for holiday relaxation at these holiday resorts with plenty of water sports, beautiful beaches, restaurants and bars.
Brela is one of our favourites, with its pretty bay keeping some real character to the place. As with many of the seaside towns in this part of Croatia Brela has a wonderful promenade (a “Riva”) which you can use to walk all along the beach and sea front. It’s beautiful to walk at any time of the day or after dinner of an evening and there are restaurants and cafe’s along the way. There are plenty of other lovely places to have Makarska villas though – all the locations are beautiful.
Makarska itself is the hub of the area and as such is busier – it’s a bigger town but still has a lovely old town with its own Riva – always popular with tourists and locals alike for coffee, lunch and dinner. It is also the place where you can hop on a ferry to Brac Island so day trips are easy from here!
