Dubrovnik Restaurants Asparagus Gastro Event This Weekend

If you are going on holiday to Croatia or are on holiday already, head to Dubrovnik to experience some local organic Spring cuisine where there Dubrovnik restaurants are putting on an asparagus gastro event this weekend. Dubrovnik’s Tourist Board has announced a weekend of special Gastro days at Dubrovnik restaurants to enable tourists and locals to enjoy and experience one of the regions specialities – the nutritious and aromatic wild asparagus is everywhere at the moment and a wonderful accompaniment to many dishes.

 

Participating restaurants in Dubrovnik will offer a special menu this weekend from 7th – 9th April 2021 including dishes such as shrimp and asparagus risotto, octopus salad with asparagus, Adriatic shrimp on a bed of rice and asparagus, sole with asparagus sauce, stuffed sweet potatoes with asparagus and eggs, cannelloni with asparagus, oysters in tempura on a bed of asparagus, and other specialties.

 

Wild asparagus is different from the asparagus we are used to at home and won’t look familiar! It is much thinner and more delicate tasting – it can be eaten raw in salads too. The Dubrovnik Tourist Board says that you can buy it at local vegetable markets in Dubrovnik as it is a plant specific to Southern Europe and grows wild in the areas near the sea. It’s very nutritious and one of the oldest medicinal plants with detoxifying qualities. Now you can eat out and not feel guilty!

 

Restaurants participating in this year’s Asparagus Days are: Domino, Eden, Gusta me, Klarisa, Kopun, Lajk, Mimoza, Orka, Orsan, Porat, and Rozario.
