Hvar is pronounced “Hwar” by Croatians and is a fascinating place – It’s name comes from the Greek “Pharos” which means “lighthouse” and its history includes the Illyrians, the Greeks and the Romans, who are responsible for its decidedly delectable wine producing industry today.. The Renaissance period saw many poets, artists, scientists and writers attracted to it and much evidence of that is to be seen in the town today.

Hvar is the sunniest island in Croatia and has its own little micro climate, often maintaining the sunshine even when the mainland is cloudy. The bay of Hvar Town is very beautiful and Hvar has long been a fashionable holiday location. Today it is one of the most sought after destinations with its piazzas and café culture, 16th century cathedral, Venetian fortress on the hill side and stunning archipelago of Pakleni islands just off the town’s coast. Popularity does come at a price and it is one of the more expensive destinations and has developed a popular nightlife scene (although only really in July/August) – but beautiful none the less. Hvar Town is a favourite with the jet-set and many yachts moor in it’s harbour with celebrities often reportedly in town. Tom Cruise and Prince Harry to mention just a couple…

If you want to be close to Hvar Town to enjoy its many perks but don’t want to be amongst the hustle and bustle all the time, why not stay just outside in one of the beautiful bays close by like Zarace Bay which is only a 10 minute drive. It feels off the beaten track and isn’t well known with lovely little beach, a few restaurants and chilled out feel but it’s not far at all from Hvar Town and here you get the best of both worlds…
