Undoubtedly, there are some really quintessential Croatian villages on the sea which are beautiful. For example, with easy access to the famous UNESCO World Heritage site of Dubrovnik Old town, the Dubrovnik coast is a great choice. With its own little islands just off the coast, it’s idyllic. But which is better for a Croatia holiday – Dubrovnik or Split? If you haven’t been before, some can find this a bit of a dilemma if choosing villas to rent in Croatia!
Dubrovnik Villas
For villas in Dubrovnik, try sought after Mlini Bay for large villas and family villas. Due to its stunning views and beautiful Croatian beaches, it’s a popular choice. Indeed, there are some truly sublime Dubrovnik villas for a 2023 villa rental, Croatia. Given Mlini’s easy proximity to everything, a villa in Croatia with pool in Mlini Bay is always a resounding success for a family holiday. Alternatively, look at Cavtat Bay with its picturesque old town.
Mlini villas and Cavtat villas are certainly in demand as both have water taxis into the Old Town of Dubrovnik. And they also have boat trips out to the Elafiti Islands. Of course, they also have plenty of cosy restaurants to choose from. Furthermore, the area of Konavle is also delightful. Just south of Cavtat Bay, some of the best traditional restaurants are here and there are some lovely activities like horse riding and folklore demonstrations.

Then, there are Croatia villas for rent in stunning Zaton near Dubrovnik, similar to the other prime bays of Mlini Bay and Cavtat Bay nearby. It is also close to Dubrovnik old town and full of charm. Or, on the other side of Dubrovnik from Mlini Bay and Cavtat Bay, it is a little quieter. Although it has less going on generally, it is idyllic with pretty beaches and restaurants.
Villas Near Activities
From kayaking around islands to the fantastic views from the Dubrovnik Cable Car, Dubrovnik has plenty to attract visitors. Dubrovnik Old Town is full of sights and atmosphere and its old city walls have amazing views. But the sightseeing and history spans the coast. For example, head to the wine growing area of Konavle where today you can try horse riding, hiking, cycling and its adrenalin parks. Or see the Game of Thrones filming location at Trsteno Arboretum. If you love fantastic scenery, islands and water sports, the Peljesac Peninsula is also a must-see. There are some fantastic villas in Croatia to rent on the Peljesac Peninsula. And, of course, the new Peljesac bridge from the mainland is now boosting the area greatly. Sitting just opposite Korcula Town, the Orebic coast has some of the best wind surfing and kite surfing locations in Croatia. Because the conditions are suitable for beginners up to championship level, it’s ideal. You can have lessons for beginners and there’s equipment hire so there’s no shortage of activities for all the family. As a result, a beach villa makes for some memorable Croatian villa holidays.
Split & Trogir Villas
It all depends what sort of holiday you’d like? If you have teenagers or little ones then the right villa and location really do make all the difference to your Croatia villa holiday so feel free to give us a call for some help with the best places to look at. Split is a great area for teenagers with plenty of activities. Split is a popular place for a villa to rent in Croatia and the Split Riviera is similar to Dubrovnik, with a variety of locations, old towns and plenty of things to do and a Split villa holiday has lots of options for activities and things to do for all ages!
For villas in Croatia Split – check out Ciovo, Trogir’s Own Adriatic Island. Actually there is no need for a car or boat here – the island is connected by 2 bridges to the mainland so you get the best of both worlds!
The UNESCO World Heritage old town of Trogir has some of the nicest Split villas in its vicinity. This is the closest area to Split airport but we’d definitely recommend heading up the coast to explore. Here, the pretty bays and sea edge villages stretch up the coast to Primosten old town and Sibenik beyond. Zadar is another area to explore from a Split or Trogir villa. The Zadar Sea Organ is a must.

Dalmatian Island Villas
For a smorgasbord of idyllic locations, try the Dalmatian Islands. For instance, have a look at Brac villas or villas on Korcula. Alternatively, Hvar Island has something to offer every taste. Hvar Town is known as the Glitterati’s Croatian Island of choice. But Hvar Town isn’t the only place for cool Croatia villa holidays – Bol Town on Brac Island is hot on its heels for cool appeal. It’s so easy to hop on one of the frequent ferries from Split or Dubrovnik. With ferry hop times of 45 minutes to an hour, it’s easy to get to the islands and experience a different feel from the mainland.
